| Raw WPM | Current typed characters ÷ 5 ÷ elapsed minutes |
Choose prose or a programming language
Select a duration and one of four text modes before typing. English mode samples a common-word practice vocabulary; the code modes repeat representative JavaScript, Python or SQL text. The first typed character starts the timer. Match case, punctuation, spaces and newlines. In a code mode, Tab inserts four spaces into the typing area; outside that area, normal keyboard navigation remains available. The displayed sample follows the part you are currently typing.
The exact definition of WPM here
A conventional word is five characters, including spaces and punctuation. Raw WPM uses the current length of the typed text divided by five and by elapsed minutes. Net WPM uses only characters matching the sample at the same index. Accuracy is matching characters divided by the current number of typed characters. This implementation does not count deleted keystrokes as raw output, and its net metric is not an errors-per-minute penalty formula.
Corrections and the deadline
Backspace and ordinary editing are allowed. Correcting an early error can improve the final accuracy while consuming time that could have produced more characters. Paste and drag-and-drop insertion are blocked for the practice task. When time expires the input is disabled and the final calculation uses the selected duration. Input method composition, mobile autocorrection or browser extensions can affect entry behavior, so disable unrelated text assistance when you want a comparable keyboard baseline.
Compare like with like
Typing code includes symbols, indentation and case changes that common-word prose does not. Separate histories are kept for every mode and duration. A fifteen-second burst can differ from a minute of sustained typing even without a change in skill. Treat the result as local practice feedback rather than a verified typing certificate. If presses are missing even at a slow pace, inspect focus and your keyboard before increasing speed. Keep posture comfortable and take breaks between repeated sessions.
Your result stays on this device
Completed game results are saved in this browser when local storage is available. Bests and recent history describe this device’s saved runs, not a public leaderboard. Changing browsers, clearing site data or using private browsing can remove them. Copy score writes only the visible result summary to your clipboard when you request it; sharing is your choice. Clear local game data removes scores, daily completion markers and the saved 2048 board for this origin. No game result is uploaded, and the games remain usable when persistent storage is unavailable. Use the rule table to check what the active mode measures before comparing another session. A changed duration, input method or grid difficulty can change the task even when the displayed score uses the same unit.
Frequently asked questions
What counts as one word?
Five characters, including spaces and punctuation, count as a conventional word for WPM.
Does raw WPM count deleted text?
No. It uses the current text length. This definition is shown so you can compare scores appropriately.
Can I practice code?
Yes. JavaScript, Python and SQL modes include punctuation and indentation. Tab inserts four spaces in those modes.
Why does my score differ on another website?
Sites can use different text, correction rules, raw-keystroke definitions and net-WPM penalty formulas.
