When conversion helps

Rasterize a simple standalone SVG into PNG at its browser-decoded intrinsic size. SVG files with active content or external references are rejected. Format conversion changes the container and encoding, rather than inventing detail. Keep the original as your editable source. A raster copy of a vector drawing has a fixed pixel resolution; it cannot be enlarged indefinitely without soft edges. For a logo that needs many sizes, retain its original vector file and export a separate raster copy for each destination.

What the tool actually does

The browser decodes the selected image and draws its pixels to a canvas. PNG output uses the browser’s lossless PNG encoder. WebP and JPEG output request quality 0.92; both are lossy settings and do not guarantee a lossless conversion. JPG and JPEG refer to the same output format. The chosen output format is checked against the returned MIME type so that an unsupported browser cannot silently hand you a different format under a misleading filename. PNG preserves decoded transparency, and WebP preserves it where supported by the browser. JPEG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas are filled with white before encoding. Animation and source metadata are not preserved as a sequence or original metadata bundle.

Supported files and limits

The input picker accepts JPEG, PNG, WebP and SVG files. HEIC conversion is not included, because ordinary browser decoding is not reliable enough across devices for this tool to promise it. Files must be at most 25 MB and 40 megapixels. Conversion also limits the decoded dimensions to 8,192 pixels per side. For SVG, scripts, event handlers, external references, image elements, use elements, embedded styles and foreignObject content are rejected. This deliberately narrow SVG subset favors predictable local rasterization over support for complex exported artwork.

Review the exported result

Inspect sharp edges, gradients and transparency after downloading. A PNG of an already lossy source preserves the decoded pixels; it cannot reverse earlier compression damage. WebP may be larger than a very efficient input PNG for some small graphics. Compare actual byte counts and visual quality before replacing assets on a website. The tool handles one file at a time and does not send it to the server. Its output is a separate file, leaving the source unchanged.

Frequently asked questions

Will this improve image quality?

No. Re-encoding cannot recover detail already lost in the source.

Are HEIC files supported?

No. Export a JPEG or PNG using your device first.

Which format keeps a transparent background?

Choose PNG for lossless decoded pixels with transparency. JPEG replaces transparent pixels with white; WebP uses lossy encoding here.
