Plan the composition

This preset creates a wide 1,584 × 396 image. Leave room for the profile image overlay and keep important text away from the outer edges. Company and personal profiles can use different layouts, so inspect the destination before treating a dimension preset as a platform requirement.

Three ways to fit an image

Fit inside preserves the entire source aspect ratio and fills unused space with white. Fill frame scales until the canvas is covered and removes excess pixels from the center of the long edge. Stretch assigns the exact requested dimensions independently, which can distort faces and circles. Choose fit for screenshots and documents where losing an edge is unacceptable. Choose fill for portraits only after checking that the central crop preserves the subject. There is no manual focal-point selector in this version.

How dimensions are calculated

For fit, the scale is the smaller of target-width divided by source-width and target-height divided by source-height. For fill, the larger ratio is used instead. The scaled image is centered on the output canvas. The browser exports a JPEG at quality 0.92. Width and height are whole pixel counts, limited to 8,192 per side and 25 million output pixels. Upscaling is allowed, but extra pixels cannot restore missing detail. A low-resolution source may look soft even though the resulting file has the requested dimensions.

Pixels, print size and upload limits

An image’s dimensions describe its grid of pixels. Its byte count describes storage size, while its physical print size depends on the chosen pixels-per-inch setting. These measures should be checked separately. Resizing does not promise a particular byte limit; use the image compressor after this tool if a form also imposes a KB ceiling. Transparency is replaced with white, animated images are not supported, and the result is a new download. Your original file is not changed. Files are decoded and processed locally, with one image per operation.

Inspect the downloaded copy

Preview the download at 100 percent zoom rather than judging only the small result thumbnail. Check that no important edges were cropped and that any padding suits the destination background. If the source contains tiny lettering, compare legibility after resizing before replacing an existing website asset.

Frequently asked questions

Does it crop my photo?

Only the Fill frame option crops. Fit inside preserves the complete image with white padding.

Does it change DPI metadata?

No. Choose the physical print size in your printer or design software.

Can I set another size?

Yes. The preset dimensions are editable.
